Episode 1: The quiet room
Harriet opens with her situation: it is her final night of probation, Vanessa runs the nurses and wants her gone, and the chief keeps his attention on her. The ward goes still once the operating theater closes, and the chief decides that paperwork would waste the hours.
When a colleague doubts Harriet will survive the night, he answers that she spends it with him. They go to a room he describes as the one calm spot on the floor. Harriet is self-conscious about how her scrubs fit, and he reassures her.
Vanessa walks in to remind him that the board wants his note before 7:00. He tells her to cancel it and to keep the staff away from them for a while. Vanessa stays in the hall, certain he would not go there with Harriet. The episode ends on a request to be told to stop.
Episode 2: Vanessa waits in the hall
Harriet swears in front of the chief and fears she has insulted him on her last night. He likes it. He explains that he is unlike Vanessa, and that is the reason he chose Harriet.
The scene then moves outside the door. Staff members compare impressions of how long the pair has been in there, and one dismisses Harriet as a dud who is not his type. A voice calls in to ask whether the doctor is still inside. The reply closes the episode with a plea not to stop.
